Susanne started her career in teaching in her home country of Switzerland. After having met her now husband (an Englishman), she moved to the UK, where she was hoping to join the Modern Foreign Languages department in a secondary school.
After a successful interview, she was however told that she would have to be employed as an ‘unqualified teacher’ as her Swiss teaching diploma wasn’t recognised in England.
Feeling too proud, Susanne declined the job offer and looked for a new venture instead. This led to her teaching German, French, Italian and English as a foreign language to business people through an agency.
Approx. two years later, Susanne founded Matterhorn Languages, initially exclusively offering corporate language tuition to its clients. Susanne’s special interest in effective communication resulted in the company also providing communication training as well as translation and copywriting services at a later stage.
“So many people spend an awful lot of time at work doing something they don’t particularly enjoy. I consider myself really lucky not to be one of them. Over recent years, we’ve really found our niche which has enabled me to work on the two areas I love the most: producing print-ready copy that gets the intended message across clearly and designing as well as delivering training programmes enabling people to excel in their own communication skills.”
